Sharks Defeat Rangers 7-3 in Rough Game at Garden Monday

The Rangers lost in a rough game last night at home 7-3. What made it worse were the horrible announcers on Versus. I wish I could listen to Steve Albert and Dave Maloney and watch the game, but I’d go nuts having the radio 7 seconds in front of the TV broadcast. John Tortorella wants Steve Valiquette to get more starts and rest Henrik Lundqvist but he needs to suit up and play goal. I wasn’t happy seeing so many Shark players camp out in front of Valiquette in the low slot. Most of the Sharks’ goals were in the low slot right in front of him and later Henrik Lundqvist when Vali was pulled after the 2nd period with the Sharks leading 5-2. Chris Drury scored the first Ranger goal at 7:17 in the 1st period. Marc Staal shot from the face off circle and Drury was in front for the redirect tip in. Rookie Michael Del Zotto, pinching in the offensive zone, scored a power play goal just over a minute later on a rebound on the left side. Enver Lisin added a third goal at 17:12 in the 3rd period. The defense was brutal in the loss, all 6 of them. The Blueshirts’ defenseman need to clear out the slot and the team can’t keep taking dopey penalties that cost them. The three stars were all Sharks: Setoguchi, Heatley and Marleau.
