Pitt Defeats Rutgers 24-17 at Rutgers Stadium Friday

The Scarlet Knights dropped another Big East game to the Pitt Panthers 24-17 Friday night at Rutgers Stadium. Rutgers defeated Pitt the last four seasons and was their first big time opponent since losing to Cincinnati the first game of the year. Panthers freshman RB Dion Lewis ran all over the Scarlet Knights for 180 yards and 2 TDs. The TD that broke Rutgers’ back was the Lewis’ second run of 58 yards. Rutgers pinned Pitt deep and was hoping to hold them to a 3 and out then get ball back and tie the game but that didn't work out.

Pitt Head coach Dave Wannstedt as reported by AP:
"It's been a long time coming," Pittsburgh coach Dave Wannstedt said. "I am very happy for our seniors. These kids really worked extremely hard over the past four years to try to build this program up and Rutgers has been a team that we just haven't been to play well enough to win."
Pitt QB Bill Stull was 16 of 24 for 153 yards and 1 TD. Rutgers QB Tom Savage was 23 of 29 for 248 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. This was his first interception of the season. Rutgers RB Mohamed Sanu ran in his first TD of the season as well.
