Penguins Defeat Rangers 3-2 in Season Opener Friday

The new look Rangers played the Penguins tough in the loss last night to Sidney (aka Cindy) Crosby and the Penguins. The difference I see is the forechecking and holding the puck. Chris Drury scored late in the 1st period to tie the game 1-1 on a great play in front of the net. The power play moved the puck and had shots but couldn’t score and went 0 for 4. Marian Gaborik was on the ice all game and scored his first goal of many I hope this season early in the 3rd period. He had 8 shots on net and led with 24:26 ice time. Henrik Lundqvist played like the King and kept the Penguins in check with 28 saves. Vinny Prospal look good as well. Marc Staal stayed with Cindy all game. I laughed out loud watching Staal backcheck Cindy as he fell to the ice in the 1st period. What a joke. Every time a Ranger touched him he seemingly fell to the ice. The Blueshirts had scoring chances but couldn’t capitalize. A few odd man rushes and King Henrik came up huge. One breakdown in their defensive zone and the Penguins scored the game winning goal from the point. Matt Gilroy and Michael Del Zotto played their first NHL games and didn’t look the part. Sean Avery is still day-to-day with his MCL sprain and we may not see him until he’s 100%.
