The Rangers dominated the Ducks yesterday at the Garden in a late afternoon game 3-0. This was about the best game I saw the Blueshirts play in the past couple of seasons. The score could have been much higher as the Blueshirts hit the post 3 times and the crossbar once. The forecheck and backcheck was nonstop that held the Ducks to one shot on goal in the 1st period. The Ranger defense was equally good playing the puck and not losing the game in the middle of ice. Backup goalie Steve Valiquette played very well stopping all 18 shots on goal to earn the shut out and first star of the game. Ales Kotalik scored a power play goal early in the 3rd period to give the team the 1-0 lead. Artem Anisimov scored his first NHL goal also on the power play late in the 3rd period for the 2-0 lead. Avery took the puck behind the Duck’s net, passed to Vinny Prospal along the boards who fed Anisimov the puck in the slot. Anisimov finished to the upper right corner of the net. It was a great play and something that was MIA the past couple of seasons. Once again I’m SO GLAD GOMEZ IS NOT HERE. Late in the game Dan Girardi flipped the puck in the air that landed in the left corner of the Ducks’ net for the 3rd goal. The Rangers penalty kill was excellent but have to cut down on their penalties.
