Red Bulls Escape Stormy Colorado with 1-1 Draw Against Rapids on the 4th of July

The New York Red Bulls escaped a mile high storm in Colorado with a 1-1 draw against the Colorado Rapids on the 4th of July. The Rapids controlled the play for much of the game and struck first with a goal in the 15th minute by Omar Cummings to give Colorado the early 1-0 lead. The Red Bull captain Juan Pablo Angel scored on a rocket in the 34th minute off a corner kick. The Rapids missed the clearing header inside the box and Angel shot the volley into the top of the net. The Rapids controlled play for much of the 2nd half. The Rapids just missed scoring in the 68th minute when a shot by Mehdi Ballouchy from outside the box hit the crossbar. The Rapids had more scoring chances as the game dwindled down but could not convert. I’m happy to see the Red Bulls take 4 points in their last two road games. The Red Bulls host their hated rivals D.C. United this Saturday night at Red Bull Arena and are in second place in the Eastern Conference two points behind the leading Columbus Crew.
