The New York Mets could not get anything going offensively against Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants last night at AT&T Park. It was a shame as R.A. Dickey was excellent for the Mets giving up only 1 earned run, 5 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Dickey’s had a few rough outings before the All-Star break but was terrific last night. Unfortunately the Mets were going up against one of the best pitchers in the National League. Lincecum was just better giving up no earned runs, only 6 hits, with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts in 9.0 innings to earn his 10th win of the year and the complete game. Lincecum has not been successful against the Mets in the past as this was his first victory against New York. Carlos Beltran returned to the Met lineup, starting in center field and batting cleanup. Beltran went 1-for-4, was thrown out trying to steal second base and left runners in base hitting into an inning ending out. Lincecum was dominant hurling 77 strikes in 110 pitches where the Mets were 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. The series continues tonight as Jon Niese takes the mound for the Mets against Barry Zito.
