The Mets are heading back to the East Coast for the friendly confines of Citi Field where they will begin a home stand against the St. Louis Cardinals tomorrow night. The 11 game road trip was a horror show where they only won 2 games. I was really hoping for a 6-and-5 record on that trip the offense was completely offensive and nonexistent. There is a lot of talk concerning “team player malcontent” Jeff Francoeur demanding a trade and Kansas City may be his next home. I don’t know how he will fare against American League pitching, so we shall see. Omar Minaya (aka Nomore Goodbya) made the trip west and gave manager Jerry Manuel a “vote of confidence” but none of the coaches received such a vote. I feel like I’m about to see Michael Corleone give his brother Fredo a kiss on the check. It appears that that hitting instructor Howard Johnson may be the sacrificial lamb and will be let go very soon. The team looks completely disinterested in playing baseball and I find that hard to believe. R.A. Dickey was excellent again yesterday and argued with Manuel to stay in the game in the 6th inning with two outs. He landed in a divot in the mound and appeared to injure himself. Manuel took no chances and took him out under protest by Dickey. I’d like to see that from guys making MANY MANY MILLIONS more than him. So at this point I’d like to see everyone go and bring in Bobby Valentine to take over the ship for the rest of the season. I’ve listened to lots of pundits on sports talk radio in NYC speak about not switching a manager into a season. Well that happened two years ago and the team responded when Manuel replaced Willy Randolph.
