The Wheels Fall Off Again for Mike Pelfrey and the Mets, Lose 6-5 to Nationals Friday

Mike Pelfrey was cruising along against the Nationals last night who the worst team in baseball. As I watched on TV Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling were talking up Pelfrey in the top of the 5th as a shoo in for the starting rotation. The only question where would he be among the starters, #2, #3? Three seconds later Ian Desmond ripped a one out double just inside the third base bag by David Wright. The next batter Josh Bard launched a two run homer. The Mets made a valiant effort in the bottom of the 9th but came up a little short and lost 6-5. This is a microcosm of the Mets season this year. Just when you see something good happen the wheels fall off. Big Pelf’s been hurt by the long ball and last night was no different. Giving up 4 earned runs through 7.0 innings could have been enough to win, if they had more time to pick up the wheels.
