Beltran's Return Doesn't Help Mets as they Lose to the Marlins 4-2

Carlos Beltran's return was the only bright spot last night for the Mets as they drop the first of three to the Marlins at Citi Field leaving 16 on base. His first game back with the team he went 1 for 4 (2B), with one strikeout. He made a nice catch in centerfield without babying his knee. In the 7th inning he came within three feet of a grand slam which would have given the Mets the lead. The ball was just short of the Pepsi Porch. Castillo continued his great offensive season going 3 for 4 with 1 RBI. Angel Pagan followed going 2 for 5 (3B) with 1 run scored. Both are hitting over .300 for the season. David Wright once again did not come through in the clutch with a nightmarish 0 for 4, striking out twice and leaving 6 on base. Tim Redding took the loss giving up 4 earned runs, on 5 hits (2 HRs), 4 walks with 4 strikeouts in 5.0 innings.

Beltran said it was good being out there with the boys. Now will Jerry Manuel play Cory Sullivan who's had a great September at the plate or platoon him with Pagan in leftfield? John Maine is expected to return Sunday vs. the Phillies.
