Rangers Lose First Preseason Game to the Bruins 2-1 at the Garden Tuesday
My friend and I were at the Garden as the Rangers dropped their first preseason game to the Boston Bruins 2-1. Steve Valiquette started in goal and looked good. He played for about half the game and came out during the second TV timeout in the 2nd period. He gave up one goal on 19 shots. Hamill of Boston scored a power play goal in the 1st period but the Blueshirts had 3 good penalty kills the rest of the period. Zaba came in for Vali and finished the game and gave up one goal to Former Ranger Marc Savard. New Ranger Christopher Higgins scored midway through the 3rd period. He played a good game and will work out well for the Rangers. The defensemen were Stall, Del Zotto, Girardi, Gilroy, Sauer and Semenov. They will need to step up as the Rangers will most likely go with two young players on the third pairing this season. I liked the Russian line of Anisimov, Lisin and Grachev. Donald Brashear was met with boos from the crowd, until he forechecked then heard some cheers. A late 3rd period penalty on Callahan thwarted any chances to tie the game. Nice to be back at the Garden! I can't wait to see Ovie next week for the last preseason game.
