J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS! Jets Defeat Chargers 17-14 at Qualcomm Stadium Sunday to Earn Trip to AFC Championship Game

The New York Jets defeated the San Diego Chargers 17-14 Sunday for the second playoff victory and earned a trip the AFC Championship. My Wife and I watched the game at a good steakhouse in Midtown Manhattan where a good friend of ours works the bar. The game was a thing of beauty as the Jets stunned all the naysayers in San Diego and elsewhere. The defense held Charger QB Philip Rivers off the scoreboard. Rivers had his completions going 27 of 40 for 298 yards with 1 touchdown but had 2 costly interceptions. The defense blitzed and kept 7 players back in coverage on most passing downs. Rivers couldn’t always find the open man and had to settle for his check down receivers. Amazingly Pro Bowl kicker Nate Kaeding missed 3 field goals for the Chargers. Early in the 2nd quarter Rivers threw a 13 yard touchdown pass to Wilson and with the extra point took a 7-0 lead into the half. The Jets running game didn’t get going until the 2nd half. The Jets got on the board with a 46 yard field goal late in the 3rd period to cut the lead to 7-3. In the 4th quarter Mark Sanchez connected with Dustin Keller for a 2 yard touchdown reception and with the extra point by Feely took the lead 10-7. Later in the quarter Shonn Greene busted a 53 yard touchdown run. Feeley added the extra point and the Jets led 17-7. Just before the 2 minute warning the Chargers scored on a 1 yard quarterback sneak. The extra point by Nate Kaeding brought the score to 17-14. Head coach Norv Turner, with 1 timeout remaining, decided to run an onside kick. The ball was kicked perfectly 10 yards to Kerry Rhodes. The ball bounced straight up off of Rhodes, who jumped up to control the ball at the Charger 38 yard line. On 4th and 1 the Jets took their last timeout. Rex Ryan decided to go for it and Thomas Jones bulled his way for a 2 yard gain and the 1st down. Mark Sanchez took a knee the Jets earned their way into the AFC Championship Game! David Harris led the defense with a solid game and had 9 tackles. Darrelle Revis once again was the man and made a spectacular interception on a ball that rolled off the receiver and onto his lap and hands. Mark Sanchez went 23 of 23 for 100 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. I’d like to see Braylon Edwards play some defense on balls that are picked in front of him Shonn Greene led the rushing game with 23 carries for 128 yards and 1 touchdown. We then took a cab to the Garden for the Ranger game, and another great win!
