Thursday, August 5th Notable Devils, Islanders and Rangers Free Agent Comings and Goings

I’ll keep up with a few of the notable comings and goings of the local NHL teams:

DEVILS
ILYA KOVALCHUK – grievance hearing on 17-year deal ended today – decision has to be submitted to the NHL and NHLPA by the end of business this Monday

ISLANDERS
JON SIM – solid player remains with Islanders

RANGERS
MARC STAAL – nothing to report on extending the restricted free agent’s contract with the Blueshirts – GM Glen Sather is playing hardball to save a few bucks – something will need to be done with Wade Redden to create salary cap room – If Redden goes to the Wolf Pack it will free up over $6 million in salary cap but he’ll still need to get paid and I say off to Hartford and pay him!
