Mets Defeated Braves 3-2 Behind Strong Pitching by Mike Pelfrey as Jeff Wilpon Has Meeting of the Minds Before Game Monday

The New York Mets stole a game from the Atlanta Braves last night on a strong outing by starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey. Big Pelf gave up only 2 earned runs, 7 hits (1 HR), with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts in 7.2 innings. It was great seeing Pelfrey get so deep into the game and pitch so well, with 65 strikes in 103 pitches to earn his 5th win of the season. Pedro Feliciano got the last out in the 8th inning and Frankie Rodriguez earned his 6th save of the season by pitching a scoreless 9th inning. The Mets only managed 5 hits as a team and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position, so that’s an area they need to work on. Jason Bay batted 3rd in the order with Chris Carter starting in right field and batting cleanup behind Bay. Catcher Rob Barajas batted 6th and was huge going 2-for-4, with a double and two RBIs. I don’t know why Gary Matthews, Jr. is started in center field, going 0-for-3 at the plate with one strikeout. This win stopped the 5-gave losing streak for the Mets. Fred Wilpon had a meeting of the minds before the game in an effort to see what can be done with the team and get them back on the winning track. I thought Omar Minaya (aka Nomore Goodbya) or Jerry Manuel was going to get fired but for now they have their positions but are surely sitting on much hotter seats.
