The Red Bulls bench players played solidly last night, especially in the 2nd half. The Red Bulls were pretty much even with the New England Revolution (who only brought 14 players) in the early going of their Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup qualifying match until their 1st goal was scored by veteran John Wolyniec in the 36th minute to give the Red Bulls the 1-0 lead at the half. Chinn missed the first shot and Woly put in his own rebound. In the 2nd half Sinisa Ubiparipovic scored in the 62nd minute and Woly scored again in the 64th minute coming off a rebound in front of the Revolution goal. The crowd was a little over 1,000 fewer fans than the last U.S. Open Cup qualifier. The ESC Supporters entertained us the entire night and didn’t let up one bit, especially in the 2nd half with the Revolution goal in the South Side of the arena. I’d like to see Wolyniec get some regular season minutes soon. As we were waiting for the PATH train back to Newark-Penn Station I saw that the Red Bulls had already e-mailed information on the next U.S. Open Cup qualifier at Red Bull Arena against the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday, May 26th at 8:00 PM! A great meal at Fornos on Ferry St. followed by a chilly win at home made for a very nice night.
