I’d heard that Jerry Manuel wants to bat Jose Reyes 3rd in the batting order today. There was senseless chatter about this in Spring Training but I thought that was merely a diversion. Batting Reyes 3rd will not get him going offensively. As Reyes goes in the leadoff spot so do the Mets historically. What Reyes needs are a few 2-for-4 and 3-for-4 games in a row and to contribute to some solid wins for the club. I’d also heard that Met ace Johan Santana asked to get the ball yesterday against the Cardinal ace and winning pitcher Chris Carpenter. Even with the solid Perez outing you give the ball to your ace vs. theirs, especially if he’s asking for it. Bad move on Jerry’s part if this is the case. Manuel also over managed by taking Perez out of the game last night in the 7th inning.
