The New York Mets were smoked by the Colorado Rockies 11-3 at Coors Field in Denver last night. On a night where Jose Reyes went 2-for-5 with 1 run scored and has his average up to .308 on the young season the Met starting pitcher John Maine was absolutely brutal. Maine gave up 8 earned runs, on 7 hits (HR), HBP, 3 walks with 4 strikeouts in 3.0 innings. In 3.0 innings! He couldn’t get the 3rd out in the 3rd where six Rockie runs were yielded. Just for good measure Maine had a throwing error as well. The Mets haven’t shown that they can come back from a deficit so far this season. The bullpen for the most part was terrific again especially Raul Valdes pitching 2 solid scoreless innings after Maine left the game after the 3rd inning. The only bullpen exception was Fernando Nieve who got roughed up giving up 3 earned runs in the 6th inning. David Wright hit his 2nd homer of the year and is hitting the ball well. Believe it or not the Mets are already 4.0 games behind in the National League East and their schedule doesn’t get any easier in the coming weeks.
