The New York Mets clubbed 12 hits against National pitching to take the first game in their weekend series at Citi Field. Right fielder Jeff Francouer and catcher Rob Barajas each had two homers in the win. Third baseman David Wright just missed another homer as the ball got caught up in the strong winds last night. Mike Pelfrey pitched very well to earn his first win of the season giving up only 2 earned runs, on 4 hits, 4 walks with 4 strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Big Pelf needs to cut down on the walks to remain successful. The Met bullpen relief combination of Hisanori Takahashi, Fernando Nieve and Jenrry Mejia were excellent in sealing the win for Pelfrey. All in all a terrific game Friday night. The Mets are looking forward to the return of their All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes who should play in the game today and is expected to bat in the leadoff spot.
