Marc Staal Wearing “A” as Second Alternate Captain of New York Rangers and it is Well Deserved

The Rangers defenseman Marc Staal wore an “A” on his jersey last Monday night against the Avalanche at Madison Square Garden. I said during training camp last season that Staal will be the Rangers captain one day. Being named alternate captain is well deserved, if only on a temporary basis while Vinny Prospal recovers from knee surgery. I would not be surprised if the Rangers name another alternate captain while the captain Chris Drury recovers from his fractured finger injury but it must be earned.
Staal was asked when he found out:
"Before warm-ups. Obviously it's an honor. It's a nice thing that they put the responsibility of that on me."
