2010-11 Midseason Thoughts on New Jersey Devils
The New Jersey Devils continue to go backwards this season. With 42 games played their record is 11-29-2, 24 points, 5th in the Atlantic Division, 15th in the Eastern Conference and worst in the NHL. I can’t remember it being this bad for NJ. The injuries to left wing Zach Parise and defenseman Bryce Salvador have all but shut down their offensive production and put goaltenders Marty Brodeur and Johan Hedberg in tough situations. Brodeur has been downright awful with a save percentage of .887, goals allowed average of 3.05 and a record of 6-18-1. Captain Jamie Langenbrunner was getting no ice time and was traded back to his original team the Dallas Stars. The Star fans are excited for his return so maybe they can rekindle the magic with Jamie on the ice. Head coach Jacques Lemaire also needs to name a new captain. Former captain Patrik Elias was smug after hearing of Jamie’s absence a few nights ago and said “We still have a game to play.” Maybe he wants the C back on his jersey. I can see it going to Jason Arnott or Brian Rolston.
